Shakawshi
This recipe is a mash up of Shakshuka and the meat filling from a Hawawshi sandwich. Unholy? Probably, but so good.

Ingredients
- 1lb 90/10 Ground Beef
- 1tsp Coriander
- 1tsp Allspice
- 1tsp Paprika
- 1tsp Black Pepper
- ½tsp Cumin
- ¾tsp Cardamom
- ¼tsp Cinnamon
- 1tsp Kosher Salt
- 1tsp Onion Powder
- 1tsp Garlic Powder
- 1 Medium Onion, diced
- 1 Small Yellow or Red Pepper, diced
- 1 Small Green Pepper, diced
- 4 Garlic Cloves, crushed
- 2tsp Paprika
- 1tsp Cumin
- 1-2tsp Harissa Powder
- 1 28oz Can Whole Peeled Tomatoes
- 6 Large Eggs
- Salt and Pepper to taste
- 1 Small Bunch Cilantro, chopped (optional)
- 1 Small Bunch Fresh Parsley, chopped (optional)
- ¼ Cup Crumbled Feta
- Za'atar Seasoning (optional)
Directions
For the meat
Combine the spices in a small dish and mix.
Add a little olive oil to a medium saucepan. Add the ground beef and brown over medium heat. Once browned, add the spices. Stir to coat. Cook for 1 further minute, then take off the heat and keep to one side.
For the Main Dish
Add a good slug of olive oil to a large skillet, and bring to medium heat. Add the onions and peppers. Sauté until translucent (about 5 minutes).
Add the garlic and spices. Stir to combine and cook for a further minute.
Add the tomatoes and juice, and break up the tomatoes with a wooden spoon. Add the reserved meat and mix to distribute. Season with salt and pepper, and bring the sauce to a simmer.
Using a large wooden spoon, make small wells in the sauce, and crack the eggs into each well. Cover the pan and cook for 5-6 minutes (for soft poach) or up to 8 minutes (for a hard poach).
Remove from the heat. Sprinkle with cilantro, parsley and feta, as using. Serve immediately, sprinkled with Za'atar seasoning and accompanied with pita bread.
Notes
You can substitute Harissa with regular chili powder, but you may want to reduce the amount.
You can add a jalapeno to the pepper mix if you want to spice things up, or mix in a good hot sauce before you dig in.
